Set aside ninety minutes in Chungmuro for tea and small sweets beside a hanok window. Kohojae at Korea House is a reservation-only tea room that serves an individual tray to each guest. Its autumn selection brings apple, fig and persimmon to the table.

A little planning comes before this tea break. Choose a session and decide whether a chair at a raised table or a floor-level platform will be more comfortable.

Autumn fruit on a small tray

The autumn tea set costs ₩30,000 per person, including tea. It combines apple danja, candied apple, Gaeseong juak, candied fig, yuja yakgwa, rice gangjeong, persimmon gwapyeon and candied nectarine. The selection may change with ingredient availability.

Apple danja is a small pink sweet dressed with white powder and petal-like decoration. Its appearance differs from the candied apple, offering two ways to see the same fruit become a sweet. Familiar yakgwa and gangjeong sit alongside several different uses of fruit.

The candied fig retains a clear fruit shape even on a small dish. Alternate a sweet with a sip of tea and take time to choose what comes next. Start with the shape that catches your eye, or with familiar juak and yakgwa.

Choose between two teas

The set includes either the signature Damyang Baram or seasonal Ttangui Yeolmae. Damyang Baram blends bamboo leaves with yuja, osmanthus and perilla leaf. Ttangui Yeolmae combines roasted Boseong tea with buckwheat, barley and Job’s tears. Let the ingredients guide your first choice.

If you visit as a pair, you can choose different teas for your respective trays. Try tea after fruit sweets, then after yakgwa or gangjeong. Changing the order gives you time to find the pairing you prefer.

Pumpkin sikhye frozen dessert is an optional extra at ₩12,000. Made with sweet pumpkin and mature pumpkin, it is accompanied by sikhye, omija and pine nuts. It is separate from the standard tray and limited in quantity; ask the venue about availability before visiting if it is a priority.

A chair or a floor-level platform?

Kohojae operates in Sohwadang at Korea House. Its interior has raised tables with chairs as well as floor-level platform seating. Decide with your companion which position will be more comfortable before opening the booking screen.

At a raised table, you sit on a chair and look across the small serving table and tea ware. If sitting on the floor for a long period is uncomfortable, or you are visiting with parents, consider this option first. Choose the platform if you prefer a low table close at hand.

The booking labels “입식/테이블” and “좌식/평상” distinguish these two arrangements. Ask your companion before choosing only by date and available time. A comfortable seat matters during a ninety-minute tea session.

Sessions last ninety minutes and begin at 11:00, 13:00, 15:00 and 17:00. The tea room closes on Sundays and Mondays. Weddings or private bookings may remove some sessions, so select a date and time on the official reservation page.

Korea House is close to Chungmuro Station, but allow time to reach the tea room inside the grounds. Arriving a little early and leaving some space around your booking helps you use the ninety minutes for tea and sweets.

When you want to give the sweets as a gift

You may want to share the sweets with someone beyond the tea table. Korea House also introduces seasonal sweets and Gaeseong juak gifts. In the photograph, the sweets sit individually in paper cases beside white wrapping: small pieces arranged for a shared occasion.

For group or corporate gifts, call 02-3011-9200. Decide the quantity and collection date, then ask about available selections and prices. Gift orders are handled separately from reservations for the individual tea set.

Think of the tea session when you want to spend time together, or a gift of sweets when you want to thank a group. The way you share them can begin with the person you have in mind.
