Soft overlining: a small lip-liner change and three products
Makeup cues from ROSÉ and Jeon Somi, a practical sequence and Glowpick’s first-half award winners.
The soft edge of ROSÉ’s pale-pink lips catches the eye before the colour. For a fuller-looking shape, consider the outline first. Extend the centre a little and keep the corners close to their natural boundary; a small adjustment changes the overall impression.
Start with a nude shade close to your own lip colour, as in Jeon Somi’s look. Mark the centre of each lip with short strokes, then connect them. A fingertip or small brush can soften the edge.
Anna’s quiet palette is a reminder to check whether the outline sits naturally with the rest of the face. Look closely, then take a step back. The overall balance matters more than perfecting one line.
Giselle’s stronger central colour suggests another way to add dimension. Try muted beige or mauve outside and a slightly brighter related shade inside, overlapping them lightly where they meet.
For a glossy effect like Choi Yena’s, start with a little gloss in the centre and spread it only as far as needed. A matte outline and a bright centre can work together without a heavy border.
An Yujin’s mirror selfie brings the whole face back into view. Check cheeks and eyes after the lips. Choose one change first: a slightly wider outline, stronger central colour or added shine.
Try the technique
Apply a thin layer of balm and blot excess oil. Choose a liner near the colour where skin meets lip. Start at the centre: draw short marks at the Cupid’s bow and lower-lip centre, widening only there before joining the natural line towards the corners. Blend inward: soften the inner edge with a small brush or fingertip rather than rubbing the outer line farther out.
Heart PercentHeart Percent’s official demonstration shows base, shading, inner colour and finishing the Cupid’s bow and corners. Its shade names are examples from that brand; practise the sequence with a nude liner and tint you already own.
Add colour and gloss from the centre. Use a little tint inside, connect the edges, then add central shine. Step back from the mirror. If the corners look too dark, remove a little product instead of drawing over them again.
Three consumer-award winners
These are Nos. 1–3 in the lip liner category of the 2026 first-half Glowpick Awards. The separate lip-pencil category and Olive Young’s live sales ranking are different lists. Ratings and review counts below are the award-period figures.
| Award place | Product | Award-period rating / reviews |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | CLIO Velvet Lip Pencil | 4.63 / 128 |
| 2 | Colorgram All-in-One Overlip Maker | 4.33 / 39 |
| 3 | Prelude Dinto La Belle Rose Lip Liner | 4.43 / 21 |
1. CLIO Velvet Lip Pencil
For a softly blended, velvety outline, start by defining the edge and connecting the colour inward. Nude shades lean differently towards beige or pink; compare a swatch with the tint you normally use. The listed size is 1.45 g. Product and colours at Olive Young.
2. Colorgram All-in-One Overlip Maker
The dual-ended stick combines base and shading. It is an option for separating a broader base area from a more defined contour. Practise in the centre before extending towards the corners. Product and application at Olive Young.
3. Prelude Dinto La Belle Rose Lip Liner
The product description presents a silky, adhering pencil that can act as a lip primer and base. The size is 1.5 g. Use it for an outline or a thin base layer. Its third-place award result may differ from the product page’s current rating and ranking. Glowpick product details and reviews.
The celebrity photographs illustrate makeup ideas; they do not establish that anyone used these products. Check linked pages for shades, prices and availability. Begin with one short line at the centre rather than changing the whole lip at once.
